As a busy mom of two young kids, I’m guilty of using screen time once in a while to keep my little ones busy, especially when I need to do something important like when I’m working or cooking. Of course, I do my best to make sure that whatever they consume onscreen is something that’s educational, wholesome, and age-appropriate. That’s why I’m happy that I came across a website that offers both fun AND knowledge for kids: Mortgage Calculator!
When you hear the word ‘Mortgage,’ the word ‘fun’ isn’t exactly the first word that comes to mind. But when you visit the website’s gaming section, you’ll be surprised that they actually have a plethora of games, both for adults and even for kids!
While their site primarily focuses on money and finance, they actually have plenty of game categories available that will definitely keep players entertained for hours on end.
Below are some of the games that I have tried and really enjoyed:
Panic In Townsville
I grew up watching The Powerpuff Girls cartoon on TV, and now, my 6-year-old daughter watches it too! We are huge fans of the show, so of course, this was one of my favorite games from the website. It’s really cute, but also, I had a blast… well, blasting the fiery meteors and icy comets. Kids would definitely have a ball while playing this and helping Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles save the city. The game challenges them to be quick and alert!
City Builder
This is a tower stacking game that seems easy and simple, but it actually requires focus and precision. Players need to construct a building by dropping a floor on top of another floor, and stacking floors atop one another. Kids would learn how a lot about concentration and counting in this game.
Treze Coins
This is a game that’s very suitable for little kids who are learning about addition. An amount is shown at the top center of the screen and players would need to add the correct number of coins that correspond to the given amount, and click on those coins to insert them in the gumball machine. It’s very simple, but it helps familiarize children with the concept of addition and gives them a chance to practice their adding skills.
Super Bitcoin Boy
I really enjoyed playing this because it reminded me a lot of Super Mario Brothers. Just like the Mario Brothers game, this game involved jumping over or stomping on enemies, such as an evil mushroom. The main character also gets to earn points by collecting stars and coins – but in this case, the coins are Bitcoins! It’s an exciting game, one that puts you on the edge of your seat, because you need to make sure that your next moves are calculated. This is great for older kids who love playing video games because it’s action-packed and it forces them to strategize about their next steps. Plus, it familiarizes them with BitCoin, which is the most popular cryptocurrency!
Flabby Chick
Don’t be fooled by this game! It may look cutesy and too easy, but one wrong move, and it could be Game Over for you too soon! In this game, the player controls a chicken that flies around bamboo stalks andzcollects golden eggs. The goal is to collect as many eggs without hitting the bamboo. I got frustrated a few times because I kept crashing into the bamboo, but it was also quite addictive and I found myself playing it over and over again. Kids who play this game will learn about patience, focus, and being strategic.
Hidden Food
Hidden Food is a search game where players need to find various kinds of food or kitchen appliances as quickly as they can. The level of difficulty increases as you move on to each stage. I also had a good time playing this on my own, but I think this would also be fun to play with a friend or the whole family, as you can have a little contest to see which one of you locates the object first. For kids who play this, I can imagine that it will train them to be patient and to not give up right away if they are unable to find the object fast enough.
These are just some of the games, but there are hundreds of others that I still haven’t explored. Whether you are into money games, real estate games, grocery / restaurant / business games, and more, you’re bound to find a game in the Mortgage Calculator website that you and your kids will get a kick out of!
